In today’s world, women are asked to be multiple things at once – gentle yet powerful. Strong but elegant. Be in the kitchen but never eat. Find a group of women but don’t threaten the groups of men. Continue our family lines but take our husbands’ last names. Fall in love but maintain a personal identity. To accomplish all of these tasks is an impossible task, leaving myself with what can only be described as feminine rage. But women are not allowed to feel, let alone express their anger.
The clinical term synesthesia is when one experiences multiple sensations simultaneously through one of our senses. Me and many women I know experience a type of feminine synesthesia where one input might trigger a slew of emotions and past experiences. I have found that my anger is often viewed as an expense, rather than a force with which I can make change. Rage Synesthesia materializes the inexplicable feeling of rage that women must endure in today’s world, allowing women to feel anger, express anger, and use it to make change.
